‘મૂર્ખતા!’ – એક રમુજી લોકકથા

આજના મારા વિનોદી આર્ટિકલ ઉપર આગળ વધવા પહેલાં, હું મારી અહીં રજૂ થનારી કૃતિના કથાવસ્તુનો ખરો જશ મારા વતનના જ એક હાથશાળના કારીગરની તરફેણમાં આપી દેવા માગું છું કે જેની પાસેથી વર્ષો પહેલાં રમુજી ટુચકાના રૂપમાં મેં એ વાર્તાને સાંભળી હતી. વળી આ તબક્કે હું એક બીજું રહસ્ય પણ છતું કરી દેવા માગું છું કે લગભગ આવી જ લોકકથા, પણ જુદા ઘટનાક્રમમાં, મને આ આર્ટિકલ લખવા પહેલાંના ઈન્ટરનેટ ઉપરના મારા સર્ફીંગથી મને જાણવા મળી છે. ઈ.સ. 1805-1875 ના સમયગાળામાં થઈ ગએલા ડેન્માર્કના હેન્સ ક્રિશ્ચિયન એન્ડરસન (Hans Christian Andersen) કે જે મોચીના દીકરા હતા અને તેમણે પોતાના પુસ્તક ‘Fairy Tales’ માં ‘The Emperor’s New Robes’(સમ્રાટનો નવો પોષાક) શીર્ષકે એક વાર્તા આપી છે.

મને નવાઈ લાગે છે કે સાવ અભણ જેવા એ ટુચકાકારે કેવી રીતે અને કયા સ્રોતથી એ વાર્તાને જાણી હશે! આ કેવું નવાઈ પમાડનાર આપણને લાગે કે સાહિત્યને દુનિયાભરમાં ફેલાવા માટે કોઈ સરહદો નડતી નથી હોતી! સાહિત્ય એ સ્થળાંતર કરતાં પક્ષીઓ જેવું હોય છે કે જે પૂર્વથી પશ્ચિમ અને ઉત્તરથી દક્ષિણ સુધી કોઈપણ જાતના અવરોધ કે પ્રતિબંધ વગર ઉડ્ડયન કરી શકે. નીચે જે વાર્તા આપવા હું જઈ રહ્યો છું તે ઉપરોક્ત બંને સ્રોતથી જાણવા મળેલ વાર્તાઓનું એવું ત્રીજું સંયોજિત સ્વરૂપ છે, જેમાં મેં મારા પક્ષે કંઈક વધારો કે ઘટાડો પણ કરેલ છે. લોરેન્સ લેસીગ (Lawrence Lessig) નામના સ્ટેનફોર્ડ યુનિવર્સિટી, કેલિફોર્નીઆ (USA) ના કાયદાશાસ્ત્રના પ્રોફેસરના મતે ‘મિશ્રણ કે સંયોજન એ સાંસ્કૃતિક અધિકાર છે.’ અહીં હું મને એવો કોઈ અધિકાર હોવાનો દાવો કરતો નથી, પણ સહજ જ કહું છું કે મારા આ નમ્ર પ્રયત્નમાં મેં થોડીક સ્વતંત્રતા તો જરૂર લીધી છે. ચાલો, હવે આ વાર્તા વાંચવા આગળ વધો.

 

A Humorous Folktale on Stupidity

Before proceeding on for my humorous post today, I’ll pass on the credit of the marvelous theme of the story to be represented below to a local weaver of my village from whom I had heard it in form of simply a joke many years ago. At this juncture, I’ll disclose one more suspense that the same folktale in different episodes was traced out by me before I started to write this post while chatting on I-net. Hans Christian Andersen of Denmark (1805-1875) who was the son of a shoemaker had written the similar story titled as ‘The Emperor’s New Robes’ in his book “Fairy Tales”.

I wonder how and through which source the narrator of this tale to me had collected it though he was illiterate. How strange we feel that no frontiers come across the way of literature to spread globally! Literature is like migrating birds that can fly East to West and North to South with no any hindrance or prohibition. The tale below is a ‘Remix’ of the two above with omissions and additions from my end. According to Lawrence Lessig, a law Professor of Stanford University, California, USA; ‘Remix is a Cultural Right’. Here, I don’t claim any right but merely say that I have enjoyed a little freedom in my humble endeavor here. Please, go on to read the tale.
